The national oceanic and atmospheric administration is predicting an “above average” hurricane season for 2024, with 17 to 25 named storms, eight to 13 hurricanes, and four to seven major hurricanes of category 3 or higher. An average atlantic basin hurricane season produces 14 named storms, seven of which go on to become hurricanes, and three normally reach major hurricane status with winds of at least 115 mph.
